School of Performing Arts
The School of Performing Arts offers a four-year program designed to prepare students for continued education and professional careers in the performing arts. Students are exposed to a curriculum that focuses on the development of their artistic and academic potential. To be accepted, students must audition for their area of interest. Majors are offered in dance, theater, instrumental music and vocal music.
At PCTI students that are in the Instrumental Music Shop will have 100 minutes of instruction in their major every day. Throughout their four years of music study students will focus on one instrument. On their primary instrument students will learn a variety of techniques to assist in their music development. In addition to performance based training, students will also learn, but not be limited to:
- Music theory
- Ear training
- Classical music history
- Jazz music history
- The various career fields in music
Students are expected to prepare:
- A composition that best highlights their talents and abilities
- 3 Major Scales
- 2 Minor Scales
- 1 Chromatic Scale
- Percussionists should be prepared to play various roll, flam and paradiddle rudiments
Students will also be given a music theory exam at their audition.
Auditions for the PCTI Instrumental Music Shop are traditionally held from January through March. Students will be contacted by the PCTI guidance department to schedule an audition date.
